Key levels for Thursday, 15 October

Only the levels that matter most: the first one each side is the one to watch at the open.
| Index | Close | Resistance | Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,623 | 22,760, then 22,850 | 22,560, then 22,480 |
| Bank Nifty | 55,316 | 55,540, then 55,820 | 55,170, then 55,000 |
| Sensex | 72,782 | 73,000, then 73,400 | 72,560, then 72,200 |
How to read them: A Nifty close above 22,760 opens 22,850; a break below 22,560 opens 22,480. Between the two, expect a range-bound day.
Weekly levels (week of 12–16 October)
| Index | Weekly pivot | Weekly resistance | Weekly support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nifty 50 | 22,490 | 22,800, then 23,090 | 22,200, then 21,900 |
| Bank Nifty | 55,250 | 55,500, then 56,000 | 54,800, then 54,300 |
Why it matters: Nifty is trading above its weekly pivot (22,490), so the weekly picture is neutral to positive. A weekly close above 22,800 would be the first breakout from last week's range; a fall below 22,200 would turn the weekly picture negative.

US inflation update (released 6:00 pm IST)
US consumer inflation for September came in hotter than expected.
| US CPI (September) | Actual | Expected |
|---|---|---|
| Headline, year on year | 3.7% | 3.6% |
| Core, year on year | 2.6% | 2.5% |
| Core, month on month | 0.3% | 0.2% |
| Headline, month on month | 0.6% | 0.6% |
First reaction: US 10-year Treasury yields rose more than 6 basis points to about 5.28%, Dow and Nasdaq futures fell, and Brent stayed near $106. Markets are now worried the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates again this month.
What it means for India on Thursday:
- Foreign money: Higher US yields make US bonds more attractive, which can extend FII selling, already in its 13th straight day.
- Rupee: A firmer dollar can pull the rupee back from its one-month high near 94.9.
- IT stocks: IT has rallied on HCL Tech and Infosys; a stronger dollar helps their earnings, but a US slowdown scare hurts sentiment. Wipro and Tech Mahindra results will decide the direction.
- Opening: The setup points to a cautious or weak start. Watch whether Nifty holds the 22,560 support in the first hour.
Events to watch
- Thursday, 15 Oct: Q2 results from Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Nestle India, HDFC Life, Jio Financial Services, Persistent Systems, Polycab, HDFC AMC, L&T Finance and Angel One. Sensex weekly expiry.
- Friday, 16 Oct: LTM, Federal Bank and Oberoi Realty results.
- Saturday, 17 Oct: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank results.
Pokharna Research view
The market is caught between strong IT earnings on one side and expensive crude, rising inflation and steady foreign selling on the other. Until Nifty clears 22,760 or breaks 22,560, a range between those levels is the base case. The hotter US inflation print adds pressure through higher US yields and a firmer dollar, so the 22,560 support is more at risk at Thursday's open. Wipro and Tech Mahindra results are the next trigger.
